This technical manual includes basic use instructions for your Avid CNC laser kit. Review the following sections for safe and proper setup procedures:

Safety¶

PPE Requirements¶

Safety goggles are included with the Laser kit and should be worn anytime the laser is Armed.

Additional or 3rd party safety goggles need to be able to block light at the laser's 445nm wavelength and designed to be safe with diode lasers.

Materials¶

Materials to avoid and special precautions:

• Vinyl based plastics (PVC, pleather, etc.) - releases chlorine gas when heated.
• ABS based plastics - releases cyanide gas when heated.
• Overly thick Polycarbonate - may catch on fire.
• HDPE - may catch on fire.
• PolyStyrene / PolyPropylene foam - may catch on fire.
• Fiberglass and resin filled products - releases fumes when heated.
• Polished metals - may reflect the beam back towards the laser resulting in damage to the laser head, or reflect towards other locations.
